Cuba has many hotels based in historical buildings with architectural significance. The Rachel Hotel in Old Havana is just one example. In a Pre-Revolution period this was a mansion belonging to a Jewish Family and is still known as the 'Jewish Mansion', hence the name Rachel.
The hotel is government owned and run so there are a few 'rough edges', but the general character and its location counter balance many of these. Food in the restaurant is nothing spectacular and you can eat better in local restaurants.
