Silk Sandalwood and Spices
This leisurely trip in Southern India will take you through the canals of Kerela by private houseboat Visit cinnamon plantations and observe artisans at work creating sandalwood souvenirs. Daily departures.
Day 01: ARRIVE TRIVANDRUM Transfer to Somatheeram Beach Resort.
Day 02: SOMATHEERAM - Free day to soak up the pleasures of the Somatheeram Beach Resort.
Day 03: SOMATHEERAM HOUSEBOAT. Set off today to begin your tour of Kerala working your way from the southern tip of the state to the north. Board your houseboat and take a leisurely journey through the backwaters.
Day 04: HOUSEBOAT ALLEPPEY. Disembark at Alleppey. Sightseeing will include the snake temple at Mannarsala and the grove of Banyan trees at Orchira, the site of nature worship. Both these sites are relatively untouched by tourists and it is a rare opportunity to see authentic rituals of worship.
Day 05: ALLEPPEY COCHIN. Drive to the ancient harbour town of Cochin. Free day until evening when you visit the theatre for a performance of the classical Kathakali dance.
Day 06: COCHIN Full day sightseeing to include the Jewish synagogue, one of the oldest in India, the antique and spice markets, Mattancherry Palace, St Franciss Church and the Chinese fishing nets, which line the mouth of Cochin harbour.
Day 07: COCHIN TELLICHERRI. So far you have travelled on boats and cars. Today you turn to Indian Railways for travel to North Kerala and the pretty fishing town of Tellicherri.
Day 08: TELLICHERRI. Full day sightseeing in Tellicherri including a visit to the largest cinnamon plantation in Asia and the traditional Kalari school of martial arts.
Day 09: TELLICHERRI KALPETTA. Drive to Kalpetta in the heart of the Wynad district. This is the eco friendly area of Kerala surrounded by forested hills, tea and spice plantations. Afternoon excursion to the Tholpatty Wildlife Sanctuary.
Day 10: KALPETTA. Day at leisure.
Day 11: KALPETTA MYSORE. Drive to the princely town of Mysore in the southern state of Karnataka.
Day 12: MYSORE. Full day sightseeing including the City Palace, Chamundi Hill, and Srirangapatnam, the beautiful summer palace of Tipu Sultan.
Day 13: MYSORE CHENNAI. Transfer to the railway station.
Day 14: CHENNAI. Full day excursion to the rock cut temples at Mahabalipuram and Dakshin Chitra, a heritage village which show cases the culture and architecture of the four southern states.
Day 15: CHENNAI. The morning will be spent visiting some of the highlights of the city. Rest of the day is free. Evening transfer to the international airport.
