Moscow Airshow Itinerary

The following programme is designed to allow you to visit the prime points of historical aviation interest around Moscow and attend the MAKS airshow at the Zhukovsky airfield - why not consider a MIG flight whilst you are in Russia - go on take a loan!

In addition to aviation points of interest we have included the 'must see' items in both Moscow and St Petersburg. Naturally, there are other museums dedicated to various aspects of Russian aviation, space and military history. We can vary the programme to suit individual requirements.

MAKS 2017
The next International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS  will be held at Zhukovsky airfield in July 2017 - it has changed from its traditional August dates. During previous shows up to 50 fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft performed demonstration flights on the daily basis. Featured were the famous Russian aerobatic teams - Russian Knights and the Swifts from the Russian Air Force. Our programme is designed to visit the main public air show days on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If desired we can arrange for you to visit on the trade days starting earlier. We can also adjust so that you just visit the Saturday and Sunday public days.

Day 1: 20 July 2017
Arrive Moscow. Met and transferred to your accommodation. Balance of day free.

Day 2: 21 July 2015
MAKS 2015 Airshow Moscow Public Day
. 08:00am: Transfer to the airshow by private car and driver. The guide will process you through the entry procedures. NOTE: for the MAKS airshow days the transfer is only 'to' the event. The guide will show you how the public transport works for the return journey. Visitors have differing lengths of time they want to spend at such an event and can leave when they wish rather than waiting for others. This also helps keep the programme costs down.

Day 3: 22 July 2017
MAKS Airshow Moscow. Arrangements as per previous day, except no need for guide assistance.

Day 4: 23 July 2017
Sightseeing tour of Moscow with guide 0900hrs to 1300hrs. To include the Red Square region of central Moscow. This is with our 'Walking Guide'. Walking is a more efficient way to see the central sights and to experience the Moscow Metro system. Road traffic is a problem in Moscow and time can be wasted in jams!
14:00 - 17:00 Visit to the Kremlin with tickets included to the general territory, two cathedrals and the Armoury.

Day 5: 24 July 2017
08:00 - Visit to the Russian Airforce museum at Monino. This trip is by car with your guide. This has got to be THE aircraft museum in Russia. For more detail you might like to read my story about my first visit back in the early 90's when foreigners were still a suspect visitor.

Day 6: 25 July 2017
10:00 - 13:00. Today your walking guide will include Novo-Devichy Cemetery, where you can see the memorials to famous people and disasters of early Russian aviation. There are the graves of Sergey V. Ilyushin's, Andrei Tupolev's, various cosmonauts, and the grave for the crew of Airship CCCP-86 (which also has information relating to some Soviet airship history). Memorials include the ANT-20 "Maxim Gorky" Victims. In true 'Soviet Style' the memorials to all are quite dramatic. Balance of day free.

Day 7: 26 July 2017
Transfer to airport to suit your departure flight.
